Up until the time of her death dans dame, Lucille Ellis, formerly of the original legendary Katheryn Dunham Dancers, taught dance in Chicago at the Abraham Lincoln Centre, in the Bronzeville District.

Her dedication to Dunham Technique propelled many young performers to advance themselves as dancers, actors and singers.

This Rhythmistic portrait in, grease pencil, depicts Ms Ellis in an amazing classic head dress that she actually wore in performances. Costume, art & dance together.

Chicago has long been the creative and research home of many dedicated creative talents and educators. Often times this led to cross collaborations between various disciplines.  The innovative production "Dancer's Eye" was once such moment.
